I have a B.Sc. in Physics (University of Salamanca, Spain) and a Ph.D. in Human Hearing (Loughborough University, UK). I have worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Essex (UK), as Associate Professor at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (Spain), as a «Ramón y Cajal» Fellow and Contracted Professor at the University of Salamanca (Spain). I have been Invited Research Scientist at the University of Minnesota and at Duke University (USA).
I am Associate Professor (‘Profesor Titular’) of Otorhinolarynology at the University of Salamanca (Spain). I lead the Auditory Computation and Psychoacoustics Laboratory of the Neuroscience Institute of Castilla y León, and the Audiology Group of Salamanca Biomedical Research Institute, and I am Director of the Audiology Diploma of the University of Salamanca. My research focuses on understanding and modeling human cochlear nonlinear signal processing and the role of the peripheral auditory system in normal and impaired hearing. I have led numerous scientific research projects funded by public and private national and international organizations. I have authored more than 60 scientific publications and have edited two international books on these and related topics. I regularly review articles for international scientific journals as well as grant applications for national and international research funding organizations, including the European Commision. I have been Associate Editor of the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America (2012-2015) and currently serve in the Editorial Boards of Trends in Hearing and Scientifica. I am a member of the Association for Research in Otolaryngology, the Spanish Acoustical Society, and the Spanish Audiology Association. I am a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and the International Collegium of Rehabilitative Audiology (ICRA).
